We’re a 501(c)(3)! What does that mean? And who gets the credit?

Last week, Furever Friends Rescue of Appanoose, Inc. received word from the Internal Revenue Service that our application for 501(c)(3) status was approved. This is a very, very big deal — not just because your donations to Furever Friends Rescue are now tax-deductible retroactive to February 3, 2017, but also because many, many people spent a lot of time and money to make this important milestone happen.

There are so many people to thank. For one, several members of our board who spent countless hours working toward this. But also many others, including representatives of:

Appanoose Economic Development Corporation, who made us aware of a grant opportunity …

Indian Hills Community College, who served as the conduit and facilitator in our receiving a U.S.D.A. grant that helped us develop our business plans and 501(c)(3) application to the I.R.S. …

Hills Productions in Bloomfield, Iowa, which IHCC hired to help us flesh out our business plans, help us with our website, be enthusiastic cheerleaders and much more …

Grothe-Craver Law Firm in Centerville, who through the IHCC grant helped us work through the mountains of paperwork involved with our 501(c)(3) application …

And most of all, to our awesome, pet-loving, early donors, who believe so deeply in the need for a local pet rescue that they contributed regardless of tax-deductability, which helped us pay the $850 IRS application fee.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Furever Friends Rescue of Appanoose has a long way to go before a physical rescue facility is in our county, but this is the critical first step. The support we’ve received thus far makes us more certain than ever that THIS. WILL. HAPPEN.

And it’s all to advance the quality of life for the animals and the residents of Appanoose County. Together, we will do this!

Thank you for joining us on this  journey!
